For me the best parts of Crufts are when the dogs do what dogs are supposed to do, run after balls including those fantastic races that are such crowd pleasers or the brilliance of the dogs trained to dance and perform by devoted owners.
Wouldn't it be nice, just once in a while, if a proper dog, one of the above mentioned or similar, ones that bear a passing resemblance to the wolves they really are were to win Crufts? I don't bother watching the judging anymore. Dogs are not meant to be preened and to primped like supermodels. They are meant to run and jump and bark and growl, to play, to roll in mud and more unpleasant substances, to follow their masters or mistresses dutifully and faithfully, to defend their homes, to chase, to bite and to be the pack animals they really are. Dogs are not substitute babies, they are animals created by man for sure, but with a bit of wolf still in them. Crufts is not a celebration of dogs, it is a corruption of them.
